Aerials Home Construction Picture Blog

Welcome to my little corner of the web Blog. No I don't use blog software I program in html. It's faster easier cleaner and gives you less trouble. Why I built this site? One I like to build things and Two I wanted to share this little MEGA project with family and friends. Plus it will make a good record of the project. I started this in the fall of 2005 and trust me this will last a long while yet to come. I still have the roof, kitchen, bathroom, downstairs and the basement apartment to do yet. And no "you" probley can't rent the apt unless your one of a very select few people. If you are then you know who your are...or your willing to give me sex for rent... {checking over shoulder to make sure wife is not standing behind me} <grin>

After a bad rainstorm and the roof leaked I figured it was a good time to totally rebuild the livening space in my house.
Click on any pic below to see a larger image.
Ceiling Ceiling Ceiling Room Roof
Drain holes in the ceiling Ceiling with insulation removed Ceiling with insulation removed Room Sealed off Insulating roof tresses
There was a lot of water trapped above the ceiling so I poked a number of holes to let it out before the ceiling came crashing down under the weight. After removing the old ceiling and insulation I sealed off the room and insulated the roof tresses. This would give better air circulation in the attic.
Celing Celing Wall Wall Pipe
Insulating roof tresses Reinsulated ceiling False Wall False Wall insulated Pipe Chase from panel to attic
I reinstalled the ceiling and installed a false wall as that wall was the coldest in the house. This allowed me to add more insulation. Since the basement is finished getting wires through the house is almost impossible I installed pipe chases from the basement panel to the attic and also along the floor to the utility room.
Pipes Railing Wall Lights Wall
Pipe chase through floor Railing removed Half Wall Pot lights installed Control wall added
I then removed the old railing and installed a half wall in it's place also adding a full wall at the head of the stairs that most of the housed functions can be controlled from. Furnace and Pump can be shut down, Security is run from here. Phone, Thermostats, weather station, Video entry for the front door is also mounted on this wall complete with the ability to buzz the front door open. There is also a panel the monitors the functions of the household systems as well as controlling the outside and entry lights. Plus a few security features I can't go into here;)
Wall Atic Wall Stairs Celing
Control Wall Wired New Attic Hatch Control Wall Wiring Steps to front door Vapor barrier added to ceiling
I cut a new hatch to the attic as the small one in the hall closet was not very good for getting into the attic. I decided on this the day I squeezed up through the small hatch and coming down I got stuck half way through. I knew then I had to lose weight But it had to be a funny sight as my lower half dangled through the ceiling. After some very colorful language and a lot if wiggling I managed to get the rest of me down.
Vapor Barrier Storm Boss Gyproc Wall
Vapor barrier and pot lights Electrical Inspector The Boss Gyproc Added Half Wall Living Room
The vapor barrier got added and the pot lights installed. The pot lights are lights set flush into the ceiling not lights for growing pot! The boss stopped by every now and then to inspect the job. And the gyproc gets added to the walls.
Room Stairs Stairs Atic Atic
Dinning Room Half Wall Front Door Steps Removed Front Door Steps Removed Attic Panels Attic Catwalk
The wall in the dining room had the upper section removed to make a half wall opening much of that section of the house making the rooms look bigger. The steps were removed to be modified so a half wall could replace the railing.
